In April of next year Bill Long will publish (New Island Books), the first book of a three-book memoir. The overall title of the trilogy is The Marvellous Journey. This first book, The Lamp and The Lullaby, covers childhood; the second book, Ruin in A Shrunken Landscape, covers the middle years – from 15 to 50; the third book, The Homeward Horses, covers the end years from 50 to ......... whenever ! Bill will be aged 78 when this first book is published; his prayer is that he will be given a few more years to complete the trilogy. In addition to writing the trilogy, he is writing essays for several periodicals and working on a Radio Drama-Documentary for RTE on the six Cistercian monks murdered in the Atlas mountains in 1996. This to be called The Atlas Martyrs. Another Radio Drama-Documentary of his is to be broadcast on RTE Radio 1, at 1.45 pm on Christmas Day. This deals with a Christmas Bill spent with the famous Cistercian monk Thomas Merton, in Gethsemani Abbey in Kentucky; called The Santa Claus of Loneliness.
